Emotions Are Contagious
You know when you are hanging out with your family or friends and then suddenly you see someone yawn? What normally comes next? You, of course, yawn! Yawning is highly contagious and, as a matter of fact, emotions are contagious as well. Today could be the most amazing day for you, but then suddenly a coworker or friend comes to you in a bad mood or has negative ‘vibes.’ We all know how fast our mood can change based on others emotions and actions. It can be a real bummer most times! That’s why it is so important to be mindful of your own emotions and really understand how your mood affects the people in your life. The circumstances or emotions of others cannot be controlled, however, we are absolutely in control of our own reactions and responses. Now, I’m not saying you aren’t allowed to feel your negative emotions or that you have to suppress your emotions. I’m saying that there are healthy practices that can be performed in order to improve your mood and change your mindset when negativity comes your way.
Here are some of the ways you can boost your mood:
Take a walk in nature! It doesn’t have to be a long walk. Even 5 minutes outside in fresh air can improve your mood instantly.
Meditate. This term is thrown around alot lately, but meditation is truly life changing. Taking control of your breath can ease the body and calm the mind, allowing the mind to move into more awareness.
Journal it out. Journaling is probably the healthiest way to complain or vent. Writing your emotions down on paper can help let go of the emotion itself. Click here to read more on the benefits of journaling.
Yoga. You don’t have to be a yogi to practice yoga, but studies show that yoga reduces stress and improves focus, using controlled breathing and movements to increase blood flow and serotonin.
Talking to a friend or family member. Human connection is a pivotal part of feeling more positive emotions. Again, emotions are contagious so choose this person wisely. This person ideally brings you up and brings an immense amount of positivity in your life.
There are plenty more strategies to improve your mood, but these have been most successful in my life. My hope is that you try these or find something that works for you and your body! Sending all the positive vibes your way today.
With love,
MM
