There’s Always Light
When I think back on all the darkest times in my life, it’s hard to comprehend how I’ve survived. There are moments when I can’t imagine going through what I’ve gone through and I can’t believe how strong I really was. How did I get through adversity? What pushed me to keep living this life? Two words come to mind when I ask this question: Hope and Light.
Somehow, regardless of my circumstances, I found light at the end of every dark tunnel. Somehow, I found hope when it seemed like there was none. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but it is important to remind myself of all the things that got me through those hard times, for they will not be the last.
There are many things that can give us a sense of hope and light. One of those things has been spirituality. I’m a Christian so it really helped me focus on my Lord and Savior and all the blessings he has in store for me. Now you may not be a Christian, however, I am a huge advocate in believing in a higher power than yourself. How else did we come to be? Don’t things or circumstances happen for a reason? These are questions that have been answered in many different ways. Regardless of what you believe, it is important to immerse yourself within some shape or form of spirituality. It truly helps center us during those dark times.
Another concept that got me through dark times was discovering my purpose. This had a tremendous impact on me, because it forced me to think of others and not just myself. Finding your purpose, or ‘dharma,’ is crucial to surviving life’s toughest adversities. I know deep in my heart that I have been put on this earth to guide and to help others, especially through the hard times. This gave me comfort knowing that there was more to live for than myself. My passion is serving others and I am so grateful this passion has helped me heal and move forward in my life.
The final practice that was probably the most influential was the simple practice of gratitude. I talk more in depth of the power of gratitude in one of my previous blog posts, so you could imagine how important this concept is to me. The more I became grateful during the hard times, the more I enjoyed the good times. The more I became grateful, the more resilient I became. If I had to choose one strategy or process that I could pass on to others, it is most definitely the practice of gratitude. I don’t care how many times I repeat myself. Gratitude is EVERYTHING. What are you thankful for today, in spite of enduring dark times?
The last thing I want to put out into the world is a wonderful quote from the great Albus Dumbledore.
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.”
These concepts that I have shared with you are ways to turn on the light in your lives. That’s right. There is ALWAYS light within you and within the universe. It’s a matter of choice. Will you turn on the light within you and accept the blessings and abundance that is available to you? Or will you stubbornly remain in the dark, where all you can see is your adversity and pain?
I encourage you all to take a step back and choose the light within you. Choose to be a light to others when they go through dark times. I can promise you that you will feel so free once you accept the offerings from this amazing life God has given us.
As always, love you all and take care.
