My Top Ten Book Recommendations for 2021

So you’ve taken the leap of faith, and now want to grow yourself to the best version possible. Congrats! I am so happy to be on this journey with you. But, you’re probably thinking, where do I start?

There are a tremendous amount of resources and tools out in the world that focus on growth, so it can definitely get very overwhelming when getting started. This is especially true if you are new to the self development club. I can tell you, you are not alone! Plenty people are confused when it comes to what resources to use when improving themselves.

First off, what is your favorite way to learn? Do you like listening to an audiobook or a podcast? Do you like watching youtube videos? Do you like attending live sessions? (not that we can do this right now!) Or do you like reading books? If you’re like me, my favorite way to learn and grow is to read, which is the main topic for this blog post. (don’t worry, I plan on writing separate blog posts about podcasts and youtube videos!)

Now that we’ve defined a particular way of learning, the next step would be to define what areas need improvement. Are you unmotivated? Do you struggle with self-image? Do you have trouble breaking bad habits? There are seriously millions of books on all sorts of subjects. Just use one of your best pals: Google.

Search any topic and I can guarantee Google will lead you to plenty of books you’re looking for. However, Google search isn't my recommended way of choosing which books to read. (sorry Google!) If I am going to use my precious time to read an entire book, I have got to be sure that 1) it will provide value 2) be an efficient use of my time. The easiest way to define a book’s value is from book reviews! The best reviews, of course, come from people you know.

Do you have any role models you follow? Are there any individuals who you look up to or that have a wonderful outlook on life? I know I certainly do, and these are the individuals I trust (on a surface level) to give me a great book recommendation. Better yet, these role models most likely have authored a book themselves! Role models are the best resources you have for book recommendations. Heck, even family and friends have great book recommendations! The point is, I would rather trust a family member, friend or a public figure I am familiar with, rather than trusting a simple google search or a book review from a random stranger.

WARNING: Don’t ever judge a book by it’s cover either! The outside may have a colorful and attractive design with the right “pop” words, however, the content may not be genuine, have good quality or simply might not be a good fit for you. When in doubt, with no one available to you, read a book review.

There is no wrong or right way to select a great book. You use whatever research strategies work for you! I am only speaking from experience.

With that being said, here are my top ten book recommendations for 2021: (these are not listed in any particular order)

  1. “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert

  2. “Attached” by Amir Levine & Rachel Heller

  3. “Think Like a Monk” by Jay Shetty

  4. “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle

  5. “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” by Angela Duckworth

  6. “Total Meditation” by Deepak Chopra

  7. “Girl, Stop Apologizing” by Rachel Hollis

  8. “Seeking Serenity” by Amanda Enayati

  9. “The Perfection Detox” by Petra Kolber

  10. “The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brené Brown

These are all books that have been recommended to me either by a public figure, family member, friend or mentor. They are all very different in their own way, but they absolutely provided value beyond my expectations. In fact, I plan on re-reading every single one listed here! Seriously, SO GOOD!

If you have any book recommendations or want to ask me any questions, please feel free to shoot me an email! I am happy to elaborate and I always welcome any new book recommendations. I, too, am on this growth journey with you!

Take care and happy reading!
