Defining Success
What does success mean to you? Is it earning a college degree? Is it landing a big girl job? Is it getting married? Is it earning a six figure income?
All of these things are amazing goals to strive for and can definitely be included in today’s view of success. However, I know so many individuals who have all of these things, and more, and still don’t believe they are successful.
I know I used to think like that for sure. I thought that once I graduated college and landed a big girl job, only then, would I be successful. I ended up earning both at an early age and still didn’t FEEL successful. I was always dissatisfied and I always wanted more. This kept me on a vicious cycle of unhappiness and negativity, which impacted those around me.
It is only through my failures and flawed thinking that I finally discovered what it truly means to be successful.
Success is not the end goal or result. It is the process or journey of becoming the person you are becoming. Yes, it will absolutely involve all kinds of failure and mistakes, but that is the beauty of it. We will never grow or change for the better if we don’t fall down many times in our life. Getting back up with grace and dignity, moving forward, is the only thing that matters.
Unfortunately, today’s meaning of success has become a toxic idea full of unrealistic expectations, which often lead to mental illness, despair, unhappiness and more. Think about it. Society will always tell you what you need and who you should be in order to be successful. How can you authentically be you if you’re constantly trying to be someone else? Is this what we really think success is?
I have a secret for you.
You’ve been successful all along, just being who you are and being present in this journey called life.
I wholeheartedly believe that every single individual on this planet is successful. Each and every one of us has the power to be who we wish to be, if we would only realize our purpose here. In pursuit of that purpose, being genuinely ourselves, this process can be the most beautiful experience, even with the ups and downs.
Today I challenge you to view your life in a positive light. I challenge you to view yourself as the most successful version of you there is. I have no doubt in my mind that your attitude and heart will change, giving you a sense of confidence and determination to move forward, even through life’s challenges. This understanding of success has changed my view of my own life and even the life of others. It is truly a blessing to be able to shift and understand the world from a different perspective.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
Love you all and take care.
