Looking Ahead

These past few weeks have been a bit challenging for me personally and I know for a fact I am not alone. It’s been a season of going and going nonstop, and I am honestly so exhausted and at the point of burnout. Not because of work or anything like that, but because I am emotionally going through so much at this moment.

I won’t get into details, but healing from trauma in my past is a very long and exhausting process. It’s like growth. It never ends. Which is essentially a good thing, but it can get frustrating at times. I am so ready to feel normal and move on with my life, but healing keeps me from feeling normal. Most of you know exactly what I am talking about even if you’ve only been though one traumatic thing or event in your life.

The one thing that keeps my chin up everyday is my continuous focus on the future. A future that is full of endless hope and opportunity. The future is only bright if you look at it that way. Mindset also has everything to do with staying focused and positive, even through a busy, stressful season.

This is a lot easier said than done. (I know, I sound like a robot by now lol)

The trick is to avoid looking behind. What happened yesterday is meant for yesterday. Yes, life can get hectic and all we can do is scramble and focus on past mistakes or failures, but it will prevent us from growing, healing and moving forward with our lives. There is so much life to live, so why aren’t we living it?

Here are a few things that help me remain focused ahead:

  • Staying Present in This Moment - this sounds controversial, however, being present is a huge part of keep our focus ahead and not behind. By being present I can better prepare myself for the future, taking care of my needs and really being grateful for the here and now.

  • Positive Mantras or Quotes - I currently have my phone wallpaper set with a phrase that states, “ Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” This keeps me in check when I am contemplating any decision I make such as what I put in my body, how I spend my precious time, and who I surround myself with. You can do this or even print out any kind of motivational quote or mantra in your bedroom or where you work. We are only human so it is only normal to forget things, even the healthy things.

  • Accountability Partner - So this can be anyone that you know that supports you and your dreams. My boyfriend is a great example of this. When I am down and getting caught up in the past, he will always make sure to remind me of what I have and what the future has to offer. Having someone you care about to remind you of your purpose and what you are working towards is honesty such an amazing tool and resource when it comes to staying focused and positive. This can also be an author, motivational speaker, mentor etc. if you are not comfortable sharing your dreams and goals with someone.

  • GG: Gratitude & Goals - This is a practice that I have learned from Rachel Hollis. Every single morning I write down 5 things I am grateful for and 10 goals that I made happen. Yes, you heard me. MADE happen. Write down your goals like you have already achieved them. For example, I write down, “I am an inspiring life coach.” This is something I have desired for awhile. TO help people through life’s trials and help people become the best versions of themselves. This mentality puts your brain in a place of positive and future thinking, which compliments the goal of thinking ahead.

I still struggle with staying positive and focused, so you are not alone. My only hope is that you find something that the makes you happy and motivated. Something that can remind you that there is so much more to this life than what you are going through.

Have a great rest of your week everyone.

Love you all and take care.
